Gas Handling Special Projects: Cryoquip's continued involvement in a range of technologies and new
applications is exemplified by a recent U.S. government contract which
called for the design, manufacture and installation of multiple pebble
bed heater systems operating under extreme conditions of temperature
and pressure.
The thermal and mechanical design problems, with operation of the
pebble bed heater over a -320°F to + 1850°F temperature range at 3,000
psig, with sudden exposure to a high flow of liquid nitrogen, are
enormous. Cryoquip technology provided effective solutions.
All of Cryoquip's extensive capabilities in welding,
machining, drilling and other manufacturing skills have been brought to
bear in the challenging manufacturing process. Each pebble bed heater
weighs approximately 75 tons, and heats 1,500,000 SCFH of LN2 to
1850°F.
The control valve element of a hydrogen pressure swing
absorption plant fabricated by Cryoquip for Shell Oil, to be used at an
overseas oil refinery. The skids, fabricated in one piece, each weigh
approximately 65 tons and measure 80 feet long, 17 feet wide, and 13
feet high. They comprise five identical valve stations designed to
control the flow of hydrocarbon products. The skid forms a small part
of a larger oil refining process to produce gasoline and oils. Cryoquip
is one of only a handful of skilled fabrication companies capable of
designing and fabricating such complex valve skids within the confines
of tight delivery schedules. Cryoquip was selected for this contract
because of its record for high quality fabrication of gas skids within
budget and on time.
Designing and fabricating industrial gas handling skids is one of the
most challenging elements of the manufacturing process. Typical gases
we deal with include nitrogen, oxygen, argon and hydrogen. Fully
automatic PSA systems are manufactured either from customer prints or
engineered and manufactured from customer P&ID's. Units can be
manufactured in all common engineering materials, carbon steel,
stainless steel or Aluminum.
